Last time Cypress Hill made an appearance on this site, they were rocking out some smooth, Latin-infused flavor with Marc Anthony and Pitbull. The reception was more than positive, with most people surprisingly accepting the radio-ready single, despite the obviously odd combination from the Black Sunday bong-tokers. Yet, for whatever reason, that track didn’t pan out and B-Real’s boys have resorted to rerouting their reintroduction to the world with Rusko and a new, Dubstep-infused joint EP. Sounds about right, doesn’t it?
Well, the project’s lead single is called “Roll It, Light It” and is just about the complete opposite of their last go ’round. With plans to pillage the the minds of every susceptible young, music fan in existence, this audible intoxicant is loud enough to make some noise, but ultimately fails for being the epitome of unoriginality. Even though the weed-theme is nothing new to these holy rollers, their one-time niche is now about as blown out, while this not-so-progressive sound they’ve updated to is currently getting incorporated into McDonald’s commercials.
So, is Cypress Hill looking to up their exposure or are they just completely out of touch and working whatever angle they can?
